Hello. My name is Lela. I was born in Los Alamos, same as the atomic bomb. I write things.
Here's how I prove I know to write things, if anybody asks. I have a B.F.A in Screenwriting from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and an M.F.A in Creative Writing from The University of Arizona. But if anyone asks you to prove you know how to write things, and they're using education as a standard to judge you, you probably should tell them to fuck off. When the writing is good, it doesn't matter where it came from.
That said, I think learning is generally good and valuable, and I love that I get to teach what I've learned about writing at The Writers Studio.
I don't submit my work as much as my should, but my writing has nonetheless been published in the queer lit mag Gertrude, in the noir anthology Trouble in the Heartland, and on the Creative Non-Fiction site Essay Daily.
I also started the food writing site Bone & All, because I love to eat, and I love to think about what I'm eating and how it ended up on my plate, I love to think about it and write about it, and I wanted a place to do all this and to showcase people who love the same things.
I've been working on a novel for an amount of time that is either way too long, or just right, I haven't decided yet.
I live in the Lost Barrio of Tucson, AZ with my wife Bree and two cats, Mae West and Bitten.
